Below please find additional details from several past DOTH performances!

"Colors of Tango" at A Spice of Life Event Center, Saturday January 12, 2002

The Colors of Tango event on 1/12/02 was a magical success, if we do say so ourselves...we are so thankful to Dvora Kanegis for offering DOTH this opportunity, and to all our students, clients and tango friends, we thank you profusely for your support of this outreach effort, which couldn't have been a success without you! We're especially grateful to David Rubin of A Spice of Life for providing the perfect venue and delicious catered food during the reception that began with an art opening of Dvora Kanegis' paintings and pottery, included a solo tango demonstration by DOTH and a fashion show of designs by Fabulous Dresses, culminating in a milonga to round off the evening! We had over 200 non-tango people at this event...WOW! We would be remiss if we didn't include a HUGE applause to our elegant, beautiful models: Sue Thompson, Sheila Howland, Cathy Gauch and Felicia Dryden. And of course, to our dashing escort, Timothy Long! Kids, you were divine! Another round of applause to Russell Bauer, who continues to spin those cd's for our dancing pleasure and to the Spice of Life staff, who competently and warmly provided expert catering and cash bar service. What a great team! Thank you, all! We're looking forward to more wonderful events coming up in February and March, so stay tuned!

"Tango: Dance of the Heart" at CU-Boulder, Friday October 27, 2001

We enjoyed a return engagement to the CU campus to stage "Tango: Dance of the Heart" as part of the class series, "Religion and Dance." This semester, we worked with approximately 100 students in the Carlton Gym for 75 minutes. Many of the ladies attended the session in high heels and elegant black dresses! We were delighted by all participants, who expressed wonderful enthusiasm and courage as we took them through the drills. It is such a rewarding experience to interact with college students in their chosen disciplines, using this beautiful dance to interact and learn together.

"Tango: Dance of the Heart" at Naropa, Tuesday October 30, 2001

We provided a similar program for Naropa dance majors as part of their class series, "Religion and Dance," and likewise had a tremendous experience. Because we had a smaller group for this session, we were able to interact with these thoughtful, talented dance majors on a more personal level.

Youth Ballet Colorado Spring Festival, "Bailes del Corazon" May 18,19 & 20, 2001

"La Yumba"

The regional performing company, Youth Ballet Colorado (newly renamed Ballet Nouveau) presented "Bailes del Corazon" (Dances of the Heart), a Spring Concert with a Latin/Spanish theme. It was a rare privilege to work with the dancers and administrators of this fine organization, and to contribute three solo tango pieces to this exciting show:

"La Yumba" - a man and a woman struggle with each other and themselves.

"Milonga de Mis Amores" - a young man looks for some Friday night action in the seedy waterfront neighborhoods of old Buenos Aires.

"Tango to Evora" - a woman dreams of her fantasy lover, and for a time they are united.

We salute Karna Knapp and Darrel Sanchez for their support in bringing this opportunity our way!

In addition, the concert featured the classical Spanish ballet "Paquita,"  "Radiance," an original contemporary flamenco piece; "Aspects of Carmen", an original contemporary ballet trio performed to live music; and an original modern work by Mark Haase, based on the writings of Isabel Allende.

Brian and Deb with dress designer Soledad Taylor of Fabulous Dresses

Thanks to Dan Diaz and all cast members for "Tango Times" Production, April 21, 2001

Well! We're almost recovered from the "Tango Times" event at Boulder's New Vista High School.  With less than three weeks preparation, more than one hundred people came out on a rainy/snowy night to see Dan Diaz's "Tango Times: A Musical History of Argentine Tango." Assisting Dan in the presentation were the Tango Camerata of Ryan Drickie on violin, Lia Davis on piano, Robert Russio on bass, and special guests Roberto Forte on vocals and Abdoulaye Diallo on percussion. DOTH tango dancers Deb and Brian were joined by Malian dancer Djeneba Sako. Then followed a tango fashion show, featuring ten of our local tangueras modeling dance fashions by Soledad and Tony Taylor of Fabulous Dresses.

The lively crowd was moved to two standing ovations, particularly on the Piazzolla numbers "Adios Nonino" and "Libertango." Audience members were deeply moved by the quality and power of the production and many very kindly responded in writing as follows:

What Our Audience Had To Say About Our Tango Times Production in April of 2001:

We all enjoyed the show quite a bit. The music was wonderful, and I especially liked the blending of Argentine tango with African drumming--very innovative. You 2 danced beautifully, and Deb looked spectacular in those dresses!

-------------------------

Amazing show!!! I had a ball and so did my friend, Sue. I was actually brought to tears during one number. I felt so lucky to have been there - what a wonderful experience. Thank you.

-------------------------

We had a truly fantastic evening. It was unique, different and totally professional. I was blown away. The singer was incredible...he was so expressive, we just loved him, and the African dancer was HOT and added so much to the show...we also enjoyed the narration, listening to all the fascinating information about the influences that inspired the tango. The band was top notch and your dancing was sexy and elegant...great show...we loved it!

-------------------------

You and Brian took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes---such an inspiration---you MUST do this more!! And Dan and his band were marvelous---words cannot express!!

-------------------------

You and Brian were fabulous. Also, the band was wonderful and Mr. Forte was tremendous.

-------------------------

Just a note to say hello and tell you how much fun we had a few weeks ago when we attended the Tango Times concert! What a fabulous evening! Thank you for your invitation! It was awesome...WOW! I want to learn from the best on how to do this dance called the "Tango" so I'll see you in class!

US Tango Congress 2001 Review

We attended the US Tango Congress in Miami of 2001, from May 25th through June 2nd. It was a tremendous experience for us. We were joined by other Tango Colorado dancers Darrell and Carol, Caryn and Eduardo, Vicki and Donna, Roberta and Joe, to name a few representatives from our area. We were able to work with some of our favorite teachers as well as some that we've only admired from afar - Carlos Gavito & Marcela Duran, Fernanda and Guillermo Merlo, BOTH Zotto brothers.
